Carl Gunnarsson re-signs with the Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed restricted free agent defenceman CarlĀ Gunnarsson to a two-year contract worth $2.65 million, the club announced on Tuesday.

Gunnarsson will earn $1.4 million in the first year of his contract and $1.25 million in the second.

The 24-year-old Gunnarsson played 68 games with the Blue and White last season, collecting four goals and 16 assists with 14 penalty minutes. He ranked third among Leafs defencemen in points and fourth on the team in blocked shots.

In 111 career games with the Leafs, the native of Orebro, Sweden has registered seven goals, 28 assists and 35 points along with 24 penalty minutes and a plus- 6 rating.
