The Montreal Canadiens got relatively good news on Tuesday, announcing that defenceman Jaroslav Spacek will have arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee and will only miss four to six weeks of action.

"We decided to just go for a clean up. I think it's a good thing for me, at least I can come back this season. I don't have to sit out the rest of the year and wait for next year," said Spacek, who said the procedure would happen as soon as possible. "For me, it's big news. I'm so happy to come back and play this year. I don't want to be out for six months. Four to six weeks I think, is great news. We'll see what happens."

Reports had earlier suggested that Spacek, on the team's injured reserved list, would be out for the season and playoffs. He is expected to return to the lineup for the first round if the Canadiens make the postseason.
