NJ Devils place Brian Rolston on Waivers

The New Jersey Devils placed veteran forward Brian Rolston on waivers Tuesday.
The 37-year-old Rolston has two goals and two assists in 15 games this season with New Jersey. He has two years left on his contract with an annual cap hit of $5.062 million. Because Rolston is over 35-years-old, even if he clears waivers and is assigned to the minors or retires, his salary will still count against New Jersey's cap.
According to TSN's hockey insider Bob McKenzie, if Rolston clears waivers, he could then be put on re-entry waivers where there would be a greater chance of him being claimed because the team that claims him would only be on the hook for half his salary and half his cap hit.
Rolston has been with the Devils for the past three seasons.
