The Los Angeles Kings have signed defenseman Jack Johnson to a seven-year, $30.5 million contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2017-18 season.

The Los Angeles Times reports Johnson would make $3.5 million the first three years and $5 million in each of the final four seasons of the pact. The deal matches the second-longest in club history. Kings center Anze Kopitar also signed a seven-year extension on October 11, 2008, and former Kings great and Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky signed an eight-year contract in 1988 (after the first year that contract was extended from seven years to nine years).

Johnson's extension was announced following Saturday night's 6-4 win over the Blue Jackets, a game in which Johnson had a trio of assists. He has four goals and 27 helpers this season, his fourth full campaign in the NHL. He has 21 goals and 68 assists over 241 career contests.
