The Florida Panthers will be without the services of captain Bryan McCabe for the foreseeable future as the defenceman is out several weeks after undergoing surgery Sunday to repair multiple facial fractures.

According to the Associated Press, the Panthers captain is expected to miss four to six weeks.

McCabe suffered the injury during the first period of Saturday's Panthers victory over the New Jersey Devils after being hit in the face with a shot.

Panthers' head coach Peter DeBoer told the Miami Herald that X-rays done following the first period suggested that there was a broken bone in McCabe's face, however he chose to return to the game with a large plastic guard over the injury.
