The Phoenix Coyotes have signed centre Martin Hanzal to a five-year contract extension and made three roster moves to get down to 23 players before the start of the season.

The deal is worth $15.5 million, with an annual average value of $3.1 million against the salary cap.

Phoenix assigned goalie Curtis McElhinney and defenceman Nathan Oystrick to Portland of the AHL on Thursday and placed right wing Brett MacLean on waivers. MacLean was later claimed by Winnipeg.
