XM radio personality, Bill Waters (formerly on AM 640 in Toronto), claimed yesterday that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Hurricanes had a trade in place involving Eric Staal.
The deal is on hold because of Brian Burke’s Christmas roster freeze (10 days before the NHL roster freeze). Waters claims the deal will be complete after the roster freeze.
It seems a deal was made when the Leafs played Carolina last Monday. We will have to wait and see what comes of this trade rumor?

as much as i love grabo schenn colborne and kadri.....DO THIS DEAL ASAP!
Are you high? Look at Staal's career stat line. The guy has 430 odd points in 490 odd games... That's like 0.85 PPG. Other than 2-3 years around when the Canes won the cup they have been poopoo. A guy who still manages to average close to a PPG on a basement team should be commended. Plus he is a physical monster and throws his weight around. Exactly what the Leafs need down the middle. To top it all off he's only 27. I don't care what it costs, if this rumor has any truth the farm needs to be sold for this stud.
I will agree with you however, that I doubt it ever will.
I will believe it when I see it and if the cost is too high I will complain whether it is Eric Staal or not another trade the farm deal like Kessels won't be acceptable .
Considering Staal has 20 points so far and is on pace to earn 47 points how much of an upgrade can we expect from him since no doubt there will be some talent going the other way .
Eric Staal's point earnings has leveled off at around 75 points per season which is not bad at all considering carolina's record . So yes the leafs could certainly use his talents but I would hate to see Schenn traded for him since the leafs already lack toughness .
