If the Edmon Oilers get a good deal for Smyth, they could ask Smyth to waive his no trade clause - trade him at the deadline, then re-sign him in the off-season, as Smyth and his family love Edmonton and he wants to retire as a Oiler.

In the end, it would be up to Smyth if he wants to be a rent a player and re-sign with Edmonton in the off-season.

The New York Rangers, San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins and Detroit Wings have interest in Ryan Smyth.
