Scott Gomez Trade Rumors

Sources are saying the Phoenix Coyotes have contacted the Montreal Canadiens about Forward Scott Gomez.

Gomez has just not been comfortable in a Habs uniform. The pressure of playing in a big hockey market is hurting his game. Gomez has been downright awful this year. 29 points in 55 games and a -15!

GM Don Maloney feels Gomez can be a 70 -80 points player on his Coyote team. He is willing to take on his big contract. Gomez has a $7.3 million cap hit till 2013-14. Ouch.

This would be more of a salary dump for Montreal and they would not get much in return. The Habs would then focus on trying to trade for center Stephen Weiss from Florida.

Gomez is a good deal for team having trouble with the "Salary Floor" He's worthing 8 on the cap hit but only cost you 4 or 4.5 ... good for a team like PHO or FLA

Montreal would have to be giving Phoenix a #1 pick with Gomez in any trade, and I am sure Phoenix would just be giving a 7th rounder back... I can't imagine there is any truth to this rumor, who in their right mind takes on Scott Gomez and 7.5 million cap hit??? Especially a financially strapped team like the coyotes.

All I can say is, I'm glad I chose Alexander Steen in the last round of my fantasy draft instead of Gomez. Steen has score a point in each of the Blues 5 games. Gomez, 1 point.

Quoting Poolboy80:
I think a bag of pucks for gomez is still not worth it......Rubber in pucks is worth more than his performance.....I'd trade him for a klondike bar!

Nice!

I would also make the trade if possible. Gomez will play better come playoff time though, I am seeing better things out of him recently, TB game especially. Veterans have a way of uping their game come playoff time.

I doubt this would happen, but I can understand what the Coyotes could gain. They could save a lot of money taking someone with a larger cap hit than actually salary if they are near the cap minimum.

Whatever became of this rumor? It sounds like the Coyotes were seriously interested. Did it fall apart?

 I believe this would be a good deal for both teams. Montreal could use a veteran D man and Gomez probably could use a change of scenery. What I really would like to see is Bagozian in a Habs uniform.
