Vancouver Canucks backup goalie, Cory Schneider has one left on his current contract, and there is speculation that the Canucks could move him this summer rather than loss him as a free agent.

Schneider is 15-3-2 with a save percentage of 9.30 and a goals against average of 2.16. He is getting serious interest from a number of NHL teams that include the Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers and Phoenix Coyotes.

The Avalanche are exploring the idea of trading their 1st round pick (Top 5) for goalie Cory Schneider.

The Canucks will be looking for a top 1st round pick or draft picks plus top prospect for Schneider.

I checked capgeek and yes, he's listed as an Rfa there, but several other sites, including nhlnumbers.com listed him as a UFA. On the forums there seems to be confusion as well. I honestly don't know so I guess only time will tell

Where is your source that Schneider is a UFA in 2012? There is no evidence out there to show that he is a UFA. Capgeek.com indicates Schneider is a RFA. Also, according to the CBA:

Group 3 UFA: Following the 2008-2009 season and for the remainder of the CBA the following criteria are applied. (1) Player must be of age 27 or older as of June 30, or (2) have 7 Accrued Seasons* in the NHL. [CBA Section 10.1(a)]
`
By 2012, June 30, Schneider is only 26, so he should still be a RFA. I guess my point is that the Canucks have no risk in losing him, they really shouldn`t be rushed in any deal.

First of all, Schneider is turning into a star so a top 5 pick would be worth it, and #2, Schneider is a UFA in 2012

"Canucks could move him this summer rather than loss him as a free agent."

I thought Cory Schneider was a restricted free agent, its not like they will lose him as a free agent. The risk of losing a RFA is minimal. That said, I hope you are right that COL may trade a top 5 pick for him though.
