Mathieu Garon Trade Rumors

Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Mathieu Garon is a UFA and his agent and the Blue Jackets talked 2 weeks ago, and agreed to talk again closer to July 1st.

Garon wants to stay in Columbus. He made $1.2 million last year and will be seeking the same type of salary on a 3 year deal.

GM Scott Howson may be under pressure this summer to make some changes, and it could involve goalie Steve Mason. The Jackets do hope that Mason can get back to his rookie form, and away from his play the last 2 seasons.

The Philadelphia Flyers showed interest in Mason in February, but the Blue Jackets were still looking to make the playoffs.

Look for the Blue Jackets to trade Mason in the off-season and make a trade for Vancouver backup goalie Cory Schneider. Where Garon and Schneider will battle for the number 1 goalie position.
